TIPS & TRICKS

Use Red Aspen DewRenew™ Snail Mucin Serum on its own, or as part of your morning and/or evening skincare routine. For the best results, apply snail mucin serum before any other moisturizers. When in doubt, layer from thinnest to thickest in consistency.

What does snail mucin serum do for the skin?

Red Aspen’s DewRenew™ Snail Mucin Serum helps hydrate the skin and lock in moisture, while also improving overall texture and tone. It supports the skin’s natural barrier, enhances elasticity, and is gentle enough to be used on all skin types. It leaves your skin dewy and glowy, and ready for the next step of your skincare routine.

When should I apply Red Aspen DewRenew™ Snail Mucin Serum in my skincare routine? How often should I use snail mucin serum?

Snail mucin serum can be used daily as part of your AM and/or PM skincare routine for additional hydration. Apply it after cleansing and toning, but before your moisturizer. If using other serums, be sure to layer from thinnest to thickest in consistency.

How much snail mucin serum should I apply?

After cleansing and toning, all it takes is 2-3 pumps into your hand. Massage it into your face and neck slowly —  really focus on those areas that need the extra hydration. Be sure to let the serum sit for a minute as well. You want to apply the serum before any other moisturizers.

What skin type is snail mucin serum best for?

Snail mucin serum is great for all skin types, including dry, oily, and combination skin. Regardless of age or skin type, hydration is the foundation of healthy, glowing skin, making it essential for a flawless makeup base.

What is snail mucin, and how is it sourced?

Snail mucin – also known as snail secretion filtrate – is a natural ingredient secreted by snails to protect and heal their skin.

It’s collected in a gentle, non-harmful way, by allowing snails to move across a mesh or glass surface in a safe environment, without causing them any distress.

Is snail mucin serum cruelty-free?

Yes, the collection process for snail mucin serum is cruelty-free, meaning the snails are not harmed to obtain the mucin.

Is snail mucin serum vegan?

No, because it uses a snail by-product.

What is the difference between "vegan" and "cruelty-free"?

"Cruelty free" means that the product and its ingredients were not tested on animals at any stage of development, while "vegan" means that the product does not contain any animal-derived ingredients or by-products. Snail mucin is a by-product of snails, so Red Aspen’s DewRenew™ Snail Mucin Serum is not vegan. However, it is still cruelty-free, as no snails are harmed or tested on in the process of collecting the mucin.

Is Red Aspen DewRenew™ Snail Mucin Serum product safe for sensitive skin?

Yes, Red Aspen’s DewRenew™ Snail Mucin Serum has been clinically tested to be gentle on all skin types, including sensitive skin! Snail mucin is known for its soothing, calming properties, and Red Aspen's formulation has been clinically shown to be non-irritating and suitable for sensitive skin.

Does DewRenew™ Snail Mucin Serum contain any fragrance? What does it smell like?

Red Aspen’s DewRenew™ Snail Mucin Serum doesn’t contain a fragrance, though it does have a mild, pleasant scent.

Do I need to apply moisturizer after using Red Aspen DewRenew™ Snail Mucin Serum?

You can use DewRenew Snail Mucin Serum on its own, particularly if you have combination skin or an oilier skin type. However, if you’d like some additional hydration, feel free to add your favorite moisturizer as the next step in your skincare routine.

What percentage of snail mucin is in Red Aspen DewRenew™ Snail Mucin Serum?

Red Aspen’s snail mucin serum contains 84% snail secretion filtrate.

What’s the texture like in Red Aspen DewRenew™ Snail Mucin Serum?

Our snail mucin serum is lightweight with a gel-like texture. It may feel slightly tacky at first, but it absorbs quickly without leaving a residue.

Is Red Aspen DewRenew™ Snail Mucin Serum dermatologist-tested or clinically tested?

It sure is! Our DewRenew™ Snail Mucin Serum has been tested by a third-party lab. We completed the Human Repeated Insult Patch Test on self-perceived sensitive skin subjects. DewRenew is dermatologist-tested and clinically shown to be non-irritating and gentle on all skin types, including sensitive skin.

How long will the bottle last?

One bottle of our DewRenew Snail Mucin Serum will typically last between 1 to 2.5 months, depending on how many pumps you use, and whether you apply it once or twice a day.

How does Red Aspen source the snail mucin for this serum?

Our snail mucin is sourced from a dedicated snail farm located in South Korea. The snails are in an environment that encourages their most active state, and the mucin is extracted under dark, non-stressful conditions without any physical stimulation. It is then filtered and processed.

Why did Red Aspen launch a product with Snail Mucin?

Red Aspen is ramping up our skincare line! So we wanted to create a product that customers could add to their morning or evening routines. Snail mucin serum is a hugely popular ingredient in K-beauty and a major powerhouse for hydration, skin renewal, and skin barrier support, so you’ve got a ton of great benefits in one small package.

What if I am susceptible to allergies or have a known shellfish allergy?

Always consult with your healthcare provider before trying any new skincare product if you have a known allergy. Snail mucin is not related to shellfish and generally does not trigger shellfish allergies. However, because some people with mollusk allergies (like clams or oysters) may also be sensitive to snails, we recommend patch testing first and seeking medical guidance if you’re unsure.

How do I determine my skin type?

The easiest way to know your skin type is by first washing your face with a gentle cleanser. From there, pat your face dry and wait 15-30 minutes to assess how your skin feels naturally without any products.

If it feels tight, like you forgot to put on your moisturizer, you have a drier skin type. If after 30 minutes your skin feels slick, you likely have an oily skin type. Don’t stress! Neither of these is a bad thing!

On the flip side, if after 30 minutes you don't feel tight or slick, you’re among the lucky few who have what is characterized as a normal skin type, aka it feels balanced and comfortable, without excessive dryness or oiliness.

How do I know if I have sensitive skin?

You may have sensitive skin if you are prone to irritation and your skin has visible redness or feels itchy.

What do I need to know if I have sensitive skin?

For those with sensitive skin, we recommend patch testing on another area — like your neck or wrist — before fully applying skincare products to the face. If any irritation occurs, do not continue use of the product.

What do I do if I experience pilling or separation when I am applying skincare products?

If you’re experiencing pilling or separation when applying skincare products, you likely have used too much product and/or haven’t given enough time between skincare steps for each product to soak into the skin before moving onto the next.

What testing has Red Aspen done for its skincare products?

Red Aspen has conducted either RIPT testing or RIPT testing with self-perceived sensitive skin subjects on the following skincare products: MineralMilk Mineral Sunscreen SPF 50, DewRenew Snail Mucin Serum, and RefreshGel Facial Cleanser.

What is RIPT/HRIPT testing?

RIPT testing (Repeat Insult Patch Test), also known as HRIPT testing (Human Repeat Insult Patch Test) assesses a product's potential to cause skin irritation and allergic reactions after repeated exposure. It’s conducted by a third-party independent lab.

RIPT testing supports claims like: “clinically tested,” "Dermatologist tested,” “non-irritating,” “did not cause irritation or sensitization in a clinical test,” or “non-sensitizing.”

RIPT testing with self-perceived sensitive skin subjects in addition to this supports the following claims: “hypoallergenic,” “suitable for sensitive skin,” and "clinically tested to be gentle on all skin types, including sensitive skin.”

Important: Please note that not every product was tested on sensitive skin. Please refer to each product’s individual FAQ to see if it was tested on sensitive skin.

Are Red Aspen skincare products non-comedogenic?

Determining if a product is "non-comedogenic" involves a specific test to determine if a skincare product is formulated not to clog pores, a common cause of acne and blackheads. This is a test we usually complete only for makeup products, like our Skin Tint.

What is consumer perception testing? Does Red Aspen plan to complete consumer perception tests in the future?

Consumer perception testing is a type of research where real people — usually target customers — try a product and share their opinions on how it looks, how it feels, how it performs, or how it affects their skin. We have not conducted any consumer perception testing, but never say “Never.”

What does it mean when a product says “clinically tested”?

“Clinically tested” concentrates on safety — confirming the product doesn’t cause irritation or sensitization when used on skin.
